Smoke free survey

Cost members went into to the people in their town to find how many wanted smoke free dining. You may want to do the same.

Get a group of people to help you. Prepare a tally sheet so you can record the results.

Ask those surveyed, "Would you prefer to eat in restaurants that allow smoking or those that don't?"

Then ask, "Do you smoke?"

Record answers under the column marked, "Smokers" or "Non Smokers".

You may want to take the information you gathered to your town council and ask that all restaurants in your town be required to be smoke free.

Advertising Survey

Does your town/city have tobacco ads? We bet it does! Take a survey and find out for yourself.

Find people to help you and divide into small groups of three or four. There should be an adult for each group. Assign an area for each group to cover.

Decide if you want to count the ads inside the stores as well as outside.

  • Write the name of the store and its location. Next start counting the ads!
  • Try to figure out how the ad is selling cigarettes.

When your groups are back together, discuss what you found, how the groups feel about the ads, and whether they want to do anything about them.

You may want to:

  • take your findings to your town council.
  • call your local paper to report your finding
  • talk to various community groups to get their support
  • discuss your findings with store owners
