.. The tobacco industry spends about $8 billion annually on advertising
and promotion in the United States, and most of that marketing. They spend
this money to get kids hooked. Remember, adults don't start smoking kids
do. (about 90 out of every 100 smokers started before the age of 18) The
tobacco executives are too smart to waste money on advertising campaigns
that don't work.
How can you fight back?? By trying to reach as many people as you can.
Like C.O.S.T., you won't have the money to run ads in magazines, or to
hire actors and actresses to speak for you. But you can get the word out
by participating in activities that get media coverage. That's a great
way to get other people to know about the lies of the tobacco industry.
It's a great way to get other people to join you in your fight to protect
kids!
